Equity index futures

What is the E-mini Dow Jones (YM) and how does its price calculation map to the legacy industrial average?

By Easy Money Scanner · Educational reference · Not investment advice

    The short answer

The E-mini Dow (YM) futures track the price-weighted Dow Jones Industrial Average, with contract value calculated as index price times $5.

    How it works

Because the Dow is price-weighted, high-priced component stocks exert outsized influence on the YM contract's movement.

    An example

A 100-point Dow move equals $500 per YM contract.

    Risk & limitations

Price-weighting means YM can behave differently from cap-weighted index futures.

Examples are hypothetical, not trade recommendations. US contract and regulatory references do not automatically apply in Canada. Rules, margin requirements and broker policies can change; confirm them with the relevant authority and your broker.
