How do I calculate my Portfolio Beta-Weighted Delta to understand systemic market exposure?

By Easy Money Scanner · Educational reference · Not investment advice

    The short answer

Beta-weighted delta converts each position's delta into an equivalent exposure relative to a benchmark index like SPX, allowing traders to aggregate directional risk across multiple different underlyings.

    How it works

The calculation multiplies each position's delta by its underlying's beta relative to the index and by the price ratio, then sums results across the entire portfolio for a single net figure.

    An example

A portfolio showing a beta-weighted delta of +500 relative to SPX behaves roughly like being long 500 shares of SPX in aggregate directional exposure across all holdings.

    Risk & limitations

Beta-weighting relies on historical beta estimates that can shift over time, so the resulting exposure figure is an approximation rather than a precise real-time hedge ratio.
