Intraday trading
What is a fade strategy and when is it appropriate to short overextended parabolic small caps?

The short answer
A fade strategy involves trading against an extended price move, such as shorting a stock after a rapid, multi-day parabolic run in a small-cap, betting on a reversion once buying exhaustion appears.
How it works
Traders typically wait for clear reversal signals, like a break of VWAP or a bearish candlestick pattern after multiple failed new highs, before entering a fade.
An example
A small-cap stock up 300% in three days on thin fundamentals might be faded after it fails to make a new high and breaks below its intraday VWAP.
Risk & limitations
Fading parabolic moves is high-risk since momentum can persist irrationally longer than expected, and short squeezes can produce rapid, severe losses.
