What is Intraday Margin (Day Trading Margin) and why do discount retail futures brokers offer it below exchange minimums?
By Easy Money Scanner · Educational reference · Not investment advice
The short answer
Intraday margin is a reduced margin requirement offered by brokers for day-trading positions closed before the daily session ends.
How it works
Brokers set this below CME's overnight minimum since day-only risk exposure is considered lower, but it is a broker discretion, not exchange mandate.
An example
A broker may offer intraday margin far below the overnight exchange requirement.
Risk & limitations
Brokers can revoke intraday margin access during high volatility without advance notice.
Examples are hypothetical, not trade recommendations. US contract and regulatory references do not automatically apply in Canada. Rules, margin requirements and broker policies can change; confirm them with the relevant authority and your broker.
