Order flow

What is the Depth of Market (DOM) / Order Book and how do I read market liquidity depth above and below current price?

By Easy Money Scanner · Educational reference · Not investment advice

    The short answer

The Depth of Market (DOM) displays resting limit orders at each price level above and below the current market, showing bid and ask size to gauge near-term liquidity.

    How it works

Traders read DOM columns of bid/ask quantities to estimate where large orders cluster, but depth can vanish instantly as electronic market makers cancel and reload quotes.

    An example

ES DOM shows 400 contracts bid at 5000.00.

    Risk & limitations

Displayed size can be pulled in milliseconds; not a reliable signal alone.

Examples are hypothetical, not trade recommendations. US contract and regulatory references do not automatically apply in Canada. Rules, margin requirements and broker policies can change; confirm them with the relevant authority and your broker.
