Order flow

What is the difference between Passive Liquidity on the DOM and Aggressive Liquidity executing via Market orders?

By Easy Money Scanner · Educational reference · Not investment advice

    The short answer

Passive liquidity consists of resting limit orders on the DOM waiting to be filled, while aggressive liquidity is market orders that immediately cross the spread to execute.

    How it works

Passive orders provide quoted depth and often pay lower maker fees; aggressive orders consume that depth instantly and typically pay taker fees under exchange fee schedules.

    An example

A resting bid is passive; a market sell hitting it is aggressive.

    Risk & limitations

Fee and rebate structures vary by exchange and change periodically.

Examples are hypothetical, not trade recommendations. US contract and regulatory references do not automatically apply in Canada. Rules, margin requirements and broker policies can change; confirm them with the relevant authority and your broker.
